If Italy is your preferred option you have many choices, including Venice at 4-5 hours distance, but closer to home consider Monte Lussari (above), a wonderful mountain top village accessed by cable car. A visit to the seaside town of Grado is also recommended.
Haus Claxton is just 40 minutes from the borders of both countries, and so why not consider exploring further afield (remembering to take your passport, of course!). If Slovenia is your choice, the stunning Lake Bled (pictured below) is just 1.5 hours away, and worth a stop on the way through to the capital town, Ljubljana. This city has a beautiful centre with a river running through the centre that offers boat trips. We love the market at Ljubljana, which offers local goods and fresh food, and hosts the most fantastic street food stalls on a Friday.
